The Problem We Solve
Why conventional highway design fails — and what PlaniN does differently

Most highway accidents occur at or near intersections, weaving zones and ill-designed entry/exit ramps — points where driver behaviour becomes unpredictable and geometry fails to guide safe movement. Conventional design treats these as isolated engineering problems. PlaniN treats the entire highway corridor as a behavioural system — designing geometry, signage, surfacing, lighting, and adjacent land use together so the road guides the driver toward safe choices automatically.

Our two primary specialisations — blackspot elimination and weaving section reduction — address the root causes of highway fatalities rather than their symptoms. Every alignment we design, every interchange we engineer, is tested against predicted human behaviour around that specific stretch before a single rupee is committed to construction.

~80%
of highway fatalities occur at or near intersections and weaving zones
Near Zero
land acquisition needed for PlaniN's patented full interchange conversion
<40T
precast unit weight — deployable without heavy gantry machinery in most cases
Full Grade
separation possible at any existing at-grade intersection — state highway or expressway
Patented Interchange System
Full interchange at near-zero land acquisition cost — a PlaniN first

PlaniN's patented highway interchange system can convert any existing at-grade intersection into a full interchange at a fraction of the cost and land requirement of conventional grade-separated solutions. This is not a partial solution — it delivers complete grade separation with properly designed merge and diverge lengths, eliminating the weaving conflicts that cause accidents.

The Design Principles — Shorter ramp lengths. Longer merging and diverging lengths. No weaving. Predictable driver behaviour at every point. These are the four non-negotiables in every PlaniN interchange design — whether it is a new interchange on a greenfield expressway or a retrofit onto an existing state highway intersection.
Patented
Precast Prefabricated Units
Interchange components designed as modular precast units of under 40 tonnes (or under 20 tonnes for special cases) — enabling assembly without heavy gantry equipment in most deployment scenarios. Dramatically reduces construction time, cost and traffic disruption.
Design Principle
Zero Weaving Geometry
Every interchange PlaniN designs eliminates weaving sections from the mainline. Traffic entering and exiting the highway does so through properly separated lanes with adequate merging and diverging lengths — the primary source of expressway accidents eliminated by geometry, not enforcement.
Patented
Near-Zero Land Acquisition
Conventional full interchanges require large land parcels at all four quadrants. PlaniN's patented system achieves full grade separation within or very close to the existing road right-of-way — making it viable for dense urban and peri-urban locations where land acquisition is prohibitive.
Design Principle
Future Intersection Planning
New highways designed with future urbanisation and industrialisation scenarios embedded in the alignment. Future interchange points are identified and reserved in the geometry from day one — so retrofitting 10 or 20 years later is structurally and geometrically accommodated.
Blackspot Science — Predict, Design, Eliminate
Converting state highways into blackspot-free roads

A blackspot is not random — it is the product of a predictable combination of geometry, speed, sight distance, adjacent activity and driver expectation. PlaniN's approach to blackspot elimination begins with prediction — identifying where blackspots will form based on these factors — before moving to design interventions that change driver behaviour through geometry rather than enforcement alone.

Blackspot Prediction Methodology
Using our own developed observational study methods combined with geometric analysis, speed-flow modelling and adjacent activity mapping, we predict where accidents will concentrate on any given highway or state road — before they happen. This allows proactive design rather than reactive remediation.
Blackspot Elimination Design
For existing blackspots, PlaniN designs geometry and infrastructure interventions that address the root cause — not just warning signs. Realignment, sight distance correction, channelisation, grade separation, median treatments and junction redesign are selected based on the specific behavioural driver of each blackspot.
Behaviour Prediction Around Every Stretch
Safety is designed in by predicting driver, pedestrian, animal and cyclist behaviour around every section of road — including areas near villages, schools, markets, water bodies, seasonal crossings and grazing routes. Design responds to actual use patterns, not theoretical traffic models.
Road Marking Systems for Safety
PlaniN's proprietary road marking systems — used in conjunction with our interchange and blackspot designs — guide driver behaviour at critical points through visual hierarchy, lane discipline and speed management cues embedded in the road surface and edge treatment.
Our Highway Design Philosophy
01
Design for Future Urbanisation
Every highway we design accounts for the urbanisable and industrialisable scenarios along its corridor over a 20–30 year horizon. Future interchange points, service roads, access management and land use transitions are embedded in the geometry from the start — eliminating expensive retrofits later.
02
Water-Sensitive Highway Design
Roads are major contributors to surface runoff, waterlogging and water table disruption. PlaniN designs highways with integrated drainage, storm water management and natural water flow protection — ensuring roads co-exist with the watershed rather than disrupting it.
03
Economic Booster Alignment
A well-designed highway is an economic development tool. PlaniN selects and enhances alignments to maximise the economic value generated along the corridor — connecting productive land, enabling new industrial and agricultural access and strengthening regional economic integration.
Rural-Urban Connectivity Corridors
Low-cost regional integration — the PlaniN model

PlaniN is a proponent of rural-urban connectivity corridors as a primary tool for regional economic growth. Our model delivers low-cost, high-impact connectivity by combining our interchange design, road marking systems and camera-enforced public transit bus discipline to create a regional human traffic grid.

By designing bus movement corridors that operate safely and predictably within the existing road hierarchy — using our interchange system and marking protocols rather than expensive dedicated infrastructure — we connect rural populations to urban employment, healthcare and education at a cost that is viable for state and district governments.

The Vision — A regional grid of connected rural-urban corridors, enforced through camera-based public transit compliance, designed through PlaniN's interchange and marking systems — delivering faster, safer and more equitable regional growth for any state or district that adopts it.
Inhabitants & Ecology Planning
Roads pass through ecosystems — human settlements, animal crossing zones, bird habitats and water bodies. PlaniN plans for all inhabitants along the corridor: wildlife crossing points, village access safety, pond and lake protection, and seasonal migration routes of both people and animals.
Camera Enforcement Integration
Public transit bus behaviour on rural-urban corridors is enforced through camera systems integrated into the design — ensuring the frequency, punctuality and safety of bus services that make the connectivity grid function for rural populations.
Precast Assembly Without Heavy Machinery
For remote corridor deployments where heavy gantry equipment is unavailable or uneconomical, PlaniN's under-40-tonne (or under-20-tonne for special cases) precast unit systems can be assembled using locally available equipment — making grade separation viable even in remote locations.
Alignment Enhancement for Economics
PlaniN evaluates and enhances proposed alignments to maximise economic development potential — connecting productive agricultural zones, future industrial land, market towns and growth nodes in a sequence that amplifies the highway's return on public investment.

PlaniN Initiative
Road Safety & Innovation
Predicting accidents before they happen — and designing roads that prevent them

India accounts for a disproportionate share of global road fatalities. PlaniN's Road Safety & Innovation programme addresses this with a dual approach — predictive technology that identifies danger before accidents happen, and safety geometry that makes roads structurally safer for every user, including pedestrians, cyclists, animals and rural road crossers. Our goal is a measurable, large-scale reduction in Indian road fatalities through technology, design and enforcement working together.

📷 Pillar 1 — Predictive Safety Technology
Camera-based AI systems that analyse live and recorded traffic feeds to predict accident probability before the accident occurs — enabling intervention rather than response.
Camera Training & Feed Analysis
We train cameras on specific road geometries, junction types and traffic stream conditions — building models that understand what normal traffic behaviour looks like at each location so that anomalies trigger early warnings.
Anomalous Driving Detection & Dangerous Driving Quotient
Vehicles standing out in a traffic stream — by speed, trajectory, lane discipline or acceleration profile — are flagged and assigned a Dangerous Driving Quotient. The system predicts the reason for the anomaly and the probability of an imminent incident.
Traction Loss & Brake Performance Prediction
Using road surface condition, weather data, vehicle speed and trajectory, the system predicts traction loss risk zones and estimates brake performance and stopping distances for vehicles in real-time traffic conditions.
Sight Distance & Stopping Distance Correlation
Real-time correlation of sight distances available at every point of the road with actual stopping distances of vehicles in the traffic stream — identifying where the geometry and the traffic are on a collision course before a collision occurs.
Weather & Geometry Condition Fusion
Accident risk prediction that fuses weather conditions (rain, fog, glare, wind) with geometric risk factors (curve radius, gradient, sight restrictions) and live traffic data — producing a composite risk score for each road section in real time.
🛣 Pillar 2 — Safety Geometry & Infrastructure
New safety geometries and smart infrastructure that make roads structurally safer — reducing the opportunity for accidents rather than relying on driver compliance alone.
Speed Calming Geometry
Novel geometric interventions that physically calm speed at critical locations — not just speed breakers but integrated design solutions that guide the driver toward safe speed through road geometry, surface treatment and visual cues working together.
Driver & Road User Alerting Systems
Geometric, visual and tactile alerting systems designed to capture driver attention at precisely the right moment — before a hazardous zone, not at it. Designed for the Indian road context where signage compliance is low and geometric cues are more reliable than instruction-based alerts.
Smart Traffic Lights
Adaptive signal systems that respond to real traffic conditions — not fixed timing cycles — reducing conflict points, minimising red-light violations through countdown and anticipation management, and integrating with the predictive safety platform.
Smart Animal Crossing Traffic Lights
Camera-triggered signal systems for animal crossing zones on highways and rural roads — one of the most underserved safety problems on Indian roads. Triggered by animal detection at the crossing approach, giving traffic adequate warning before the crossing event.
Rural Crossing Traffic Lights
Low-cost, reliable signal systems for rural road crossings — where pedestrian and cyclist fatalities are highest and current infrastructure is non-existent. Designed for Indian rural power supply conditions, low maintenance requirements and high visibility in all weather.
Lane Discipline & Safe Driving Enforcement
Camera-based lane discipline monitoring integrated with road marking systems and enforcement infrastructure — making lane driving the path of least resistance rather than the exception. Designed to integrate with existing traffic enforcement frameworks.
🎯 The Mission
A measurable, large-scale reduction in road fatalities and accidents on Indian roads. Through predictive technology that warns before impact, safety geometry that guides before failure, and enforcement systems that make safe driving the default — PlaniN's Road Safety programme targets the human, geometric and vehicular causes of accidents simultaneously.
